The Capital City Go-go lead by as much as 15 in fourth quarter, but it was quickly squandered, and they ultimately headed to overtime at Portland Expo Center. However with two clutch free throws, the Go-go was able to hang on to improve to 9-9 on the season.
Go-go’s Jordan McRae scored 32 points, followed by Devin Robinson with 25 points. Both are on two-way contracts with the Washington Wizards. The Maine Red Claws’ Vitto Brown scored 25 points, followed by Celtics’ two-way player P.J. Dozier with 22.
It was a back and forth battle between the two teams in the first quarter, with Brown and McRae going shot for shot. As Brown scored, McRae answered right back. The Red Claws would lead the first quarter 31-30. The Maine Red Claws started the second quarter on an 11-4 run, but the Go-go then went on a 7-0 run. The two teams ultimately tied it up to end the half.
The Capital City Go-go went on a 23-9 run in the third quarter and led 83-70 going into the fourth. In the fourth, Dozier opened up with a big four-point play, and it started a huge run for the Red Claws, as they went on a 21-8 run in the quarter. It was again a back and forth battle as a three-point play by Dozier put Maine up 95-93 and McRae answering back with a lay-in to put them back up by one. Maine’s Archie Goodwin had a chance to win the game, but missed the shot, heading into overtime.
In overtime, the Capital City Go-go would pull away after Dozier would foul out after the game. The Go-go would win by one and improves back to .500.
Capital City will finish their back-to-back facing off against the Canton Charge. In their last meeting, the Go-go defeated the Charge 121-103.
